DETROIT – The Detroit Police Department’s Sixth Precinct, along with community partners 411 Therapy and Home Depot, has opened the new Community Closet store that will allow residents to pick up donated items, such as clothes, non-perishable foods, and diapers.
“As a police agency, our job is to not only protect the city and arrest criminals, but to also assist anyone in need across our community,” said Detroit Police Chief James E. Craig. “That is the goal of this new Community Closet, to provide resources such as clothes and food, as well as hope, to those in our neighborhoods who need it.”
The Community Closet is located in the Sixth Precinct building, where the precinct’s former holding cells were transformed into a beautiful space for people in the community to get the items they need.
This year-round service is the result of the commitment of Captain LaShanna Potts, Commander Arnold Williams and the officers of the Sixth Precinct, along with the generosity and support of Hassan Fayad of 411 Therapy and Mark Green of Home Depot.
As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Closet will be open by Appointment Only. Appointments can be made by calling the Sixth Precint Front Desk at (313) 596-5600. Donations can be dropped off at the Sixth Precinct Front Desk any day and time.
